School Nursing Service

The Special School Nurses provide training, advice and support to educational staff to support children’s medical needs at school. They also provide bespoke holistic health advice and support to parents/carers and young people. They are able to provide bespoke provision to contribute towards the children and young people’s health education. 

The nurses help with

  • Health assessments and care plans for children and young people with complex physical and/or emotional difficulties.

  • Training for school staff on specific health conditions and medications in school.

  • Specialist support and advice for parents and carers with issues such as continence, sleep and nutrition.

  • Support and advice for children and young people with emotional health needs.

  • Support and advice for children, young people and their family with weight concerns.

  • Referral to appropriate agencies as required.

  • Support and advice for schools regarding The Healthy Schools Programme and Personal Social & Health Education (PSHE)

  • Sex and relationships education for young people.

  • Support for the delivery of the schools immunisations programme.

  • Promotion of healthy lifestyles with groups and individuals.
